Paw Print - Issue #7 – August 2010 Special Edition |

Adoption Event July 31 & August 1!On Friday night, July 23, FACT took in 9 ferrets that had been abandoned in a box at an apartment complex in Groton. All are relatively young – between 1 and 2½ years – nice, and in good health. A few are thin, but regular food and water will solve that. There are 7 males and 2 females. These guys need homes. We already had 8 ferrets to be placed and are way over capacity. We cannot accept any more ferrets until some are adopted. This leaves animals found outside or being abandoned by those who “have to get rid of them NOW” no guaranteed place of shelter. FACT will have a Special Adoption Event to try to place as many ferrets as we can quickly. During this adoption weekend, adoption fees will be reduced to a flat $40 per ferret. Adoption applications and an interview WILL still be required. Appointments normally take 1-1½ hours from start to finish and times will begin at 10 am on July 31 (Saturday) and 11 am August 1 (Sunday.) We plan to schedule up to 3 potential adoptors together to streamline the process. If you can’t make Saturday or Sunday, appointments for weekday evenings can also be arranged. Planning an August vacation? Come and adopt now and we will hold your new friend at no charge until you return. All FACT ferrets come with their canine distemper vaccination, a sample of the food they are currently eating, pet store coupons & bonuses, and we will also offer 15% off all the wonderful sleepy spots, hammocks, and pouches in the Ferret Treasures store to adoptors. Can you help? Someone acquired all these ferrets, probably as kits, within a year or so. Then for unknown reasons, this foolish person left them outside in a big cardboard box on a rainy night. They deserve better. Maybe YOU can be their second chance at a permanent, caring home. Please use this link to request an adoption application and set up an interview appointment. L. FACT On Facebook & Twitter Thanks to the efforts & expertise of volunteer Rudy Robles, FACT now has a presence on both of these social media giants. We hope to soon set up a special area on Facebook for our Foster Parents to post pictures and quick notes about the sick and elderly animals in our Foster program. And for those who’ve been jealous of Vanessa’s bargain-hunting skills, visit Twitter here and you can catch her tailwind. Newspaper Needed! The influx of ferrets has our litter paper stash low. If you live locally and can get used papers from your home, place of work, or have a convenience store connection, we’d love to find some dropped at our door! No need to call; just leave them on the front steps. What we CAN use: Large-format, clean newspapers such as the Wall St. Journal, NY Times, Boston Globe, or local papers. What we CAN’T use: Tabloid-size (NY Post, Hartford Advocate). Glossy advertising sheets or inserts. Cardboard, junk mail, paper bags, copy paper, or any other paper that might be mixed in with the recycling. PLEASE remove any of those items before hauling paper here! |
14 Sherbrooke Avenue,
Hartford, CT 06106-3838 Give a Little, Get a Little – FACT’s Summer Fundraiser We love giving stuff away! Especially to all the wonderful donors who help our work for homeless ferrets. So this drawing works a little differently…you give us $10 (or any multiple of $10) and we’ll give you your choice of a toy or a summer-weight polar fleece pouch for your ferret. PLUS you’ll receive 2 entries into a drawing, to be held September 1, for three very cool prizes. One prize is an Artist Proof of a limited edition print by artist Elaine Verstraete. You won’t find these available anywhere else – they are long out of print. This photo does not do the print justice – it’s lovely & detailed and practically priceless!
The next prize is a 26” high plastic play yard. Sold online starting at $50, this ferret-safe playpen assembles & comes apart easily and folds for storage. Great for summer outings or to give your pets a secure play area on deck or patio.
The final prize is a scale model of a camping tent. You’ve probably seen these in stores, used as displays, and thought they were perfectly ferret-sized. But you can’t buy them – manufacturers require stores return them after use. You can find a few online, but they start at $50+ and people often get into bidding wars over them! This one is sturdy and your ferrets would have a great time playing in, out, and all over.
