Membership

FACT encourages supporters to become a member of our organization. Our members come from all over the world. All that's required is a love of ferrets and desire to help them.

Membership includes a welcome kit with a copy of our ferret information material and bi-monthly newsletter. First year family membership is $25. Renewal is $20 annually.

Additional membership information.

Foster Program

In addition to one time donations, FACT created the Foster Grandparent Program to help support our "permanent" as well as those ferrets who arrive needing medical attention. Click the link above to learn more about the benefits of becoming a FACT Foster Grandparent.

We also accept applications from knowledgeable ferret owners to become FACT foster families. These are the people who provide permanent foster care in their home for our elderly and special needs ferrets that become part of the Foster Program. Fostering is not for everyone, but it can be emotionally rewarding and helps us have room in the shelter for other needy ferrets. Learn more about the requirements, obligations and details of the FACT Foster Program.

FACT is a 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization.  Therefore, all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. All donations are cheerfully welcomed and acknowledged! Donations should be made payable to:

  • Donate Goods & Services

For those who prefer, FACT accepts gifts of new or used ferret toys; new or gently used baby toys; soft, cuddly receiving blankets, or NutriCal. Gently used ferret supplies (for use in the shelter or resale in the FACT's on-site Ferret Store) are also gratefully accepted. Please contact us for information before delivering or sending any items as storage space is limited. We would be happy to consult with you on your gift and the best way to maximize the benefit of your gift to help the homeless!

For those unsure of what to send, a gift certificate to a pet store chain, grocery store, or home building supply (for shelter maintenance and repairs) is always deeply appreciated and stores easily!

Online Shopping & Browsing

There are several ways to help FACT while doing your usual shopping, and even bidding on the Internet. It's called Affinity Marketing and many individuals and companies use it to earn money from your buying and browsing. These links will let you help FACT* without having to give a single penny out of your pocket! How easy is that!!

We will add more links as we are approved.

  • Browsing the Internet
Goodsearch  -  We learned about this site through Entreprenur magazine and several other non-profit groups. Similar to iGive described below, this Yahoo Search based search engine will donate a percentage of their click based revenue to the charity of your choice. The Ferret Association of Connecticut is registered. So if you use AOL, MSN, Google or Yahoo, please consider switching. You can even install a very handy tool-bar that remembers your selection. At this time we earn about $.01 per search. And if you don't think that doesn't add up! Just think of how many searches you do in a typical Internet session!

Please feel free to share this with friends and family! It is very easy to change your selection at any time to designate any of your favorite charities. These are the kinds of initiatives that are win/win for everyone involved.

  • Shopping Via the Internet
  • We have a number of companies (including the Ferret Store, ferret.com, eBay) that we have affiliated with to receive royalties for purchases made through our website. Follow this LINK to see them all. Please use your own judgment.  We can say all are legitimate retailers. We will learn immediately if they terminate their affiliation status and will remove the link. We have not purchased or ordered from all so cannot comment on their service or shipping costs. But if these are web stores you frequent, we trust you will use our links to generate "free" income for the shelter.
  • Ferret Treasures - of course, now we have our very own online store! Sales directly benefit FACT.
  • Ferret & Shelter Benefit Items - In addition to the Ferret Treasures store which focuses on bedding, supplies and gifts available through the shelter store, FACT's President has an eBay store - 1 Ferret's Treasures - that offers some of the same items but also many one of a kind ferret items or those items generous donors have given us to raise funds for the shelter. Bookmark this link and shop often! Purchases of FACT items (specially identified) directly benefit the shelter. Sales of all other items earn FACT a commission.

    SHOPPING HINT -
find the item number then come back and use the eBay Bid & Buy Link to finalize your purchase. That's the way we make the very most!
  • iGive - This site allows you to select (or nominate) an organization to support. When you make a purchase through their "portal" while logged into their site, your selected non-profit organization receives a donation that varies depending upon the store's stated policy. The companies you can purchase from include the "biggies" like EBAY, major booksellers and even computer companies. (The list is constantly expanding).

If you shop via the web, it is worth checking out IGive. Using this portal to shop DOES NOT increase your cost in any way! So make your shopping count! Even if you don't select FACT (though we HOPE you do!), you will be painlessly helping a favorite organization.

Watch for specials and referral bonsues for your cause. You can even track how much you've earned and how much FACT has earned through iGive.

  • Calendars - we are sorry to report that the Calendar company that carries so many of the ferret calendars no longer offers a direct affiliate royalty program. However, their calendars are available through the iGive shopping portal. Just be sure to sign up and designate FACT as your charity!

*Inclusion of these links does not imply endorsement of these companies or the products they offer by FACT. We offer them as a service to our supporters. Please continue to shop for the best price and service.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities exist for those who live local to FACT as well as those who are only as far away as their computer! We can even find a way to accommodate "helpers" who are more comfortable communicating via the postal service.

  • Connecticut & Surrounds

Besides coveted "poop patrol" and miscellaneous cleaning positions, staff are needed to help reply to mail, return telephone calls, follow-up on adoptions, assist with "office work," and to handle the "toughest" job of all: FERRET PLAYMATE!

For periodic volunteering, we always need volunteers at Events to answer questions, help groom ferrets, run fun matches, put up signs . . . etc.

Then there are those wonderful ferret folk who decide they want to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by taking in a sick or elderly ferret into their home through the FACT Foster Program. Young and old, singles and families have helped provide a permanent, loving and attentive home to over 150 ferrets to date (through January, 2002).

  • At A Distance

We always need people willing to help with our web site, write or type articles, maintain contact lists, write thank you notes, contact potential donors, and answer e-mail. If you are willing to help, we can find a job that accommodates that desire!
