Warning! Paper Shredder Danger
By Mary
Van Dahm in The Fair Report, Nov./Dec. 2000 issue
We
received a report about a dog that had lost most of his tongue in a paper
shredder. Fortunately for the dog, he was a large breed and he survived the
incident, although he is mutilated for life.
With home office paper shredders becoming
more common, it is easy to foresee that ferrets could also be hurt or killed by
these machines – especially since ferrets are prone to tipping over waste
baskets to begin with and many people tend to leave their shredders on “stand
by” rather than turning them completely off. We recommend that you set your
shredder up on a table or desk where your ferrets can not reach it and make sure
that it is turned off or unplugged every time you finish using it.
